Things To Do In
Christchurch

CHC city

Discover a City Being Rebuilt

From cardboard cathedrals and surviving English architecture, travellers will relish in this city full of colour, street art and inspiration. A must-do is the Canterbury Museum and the Botanic Gardens – we don't call this the Garden City for nothin'! You'll also find quirky modern cafe's in the city's new builds as well as top quality restaurants, hipster bars and wee food trucks as the street food success continues!
CHC winery

Wineries

The Canterbury region is relatively new to the wine game but none the less has some awesome Riesling and Pinot Noir, all grown in scenic landscapes so you can sip and admire the view. You can either hop on a day tour with a local guide where you'll be taken to various wineries for tastings as well as learn a bit about how they're made or you can jump in your JUCY wheels with your designated driver and take your time exploring the region and vineyards before heading onto your next destination.
CHC flora

Nature & Wildlife Tours

If you’re a nature lover head to Riccarton Bush. A tranquil spot, Riccarton Bush is just 4km from the centre of Christchurch and is a protected, ancient forest so a great area to wander and spot wildlife. On the outskirts of Christchurch you’ll find New Zealand’s only open range zoo, Orana Wildlife Park, with sprawling grounds and an abundance of animals you’ll feel like you’re on a game drive in the wilds of Africa!
CHC hills

Go Hiking in the Hills

After you've explored Christchurch City and its bounty of parks, head out to the hills for some epic hikes and walks. Some of the best walks in the region are just a 30-60 minute drive out, one being Godley Head – this 3 hour loop will take you across dramatic coastline, clifftops and more lookouts than you can shake a stick at! There's also some top walks in the Port Hills region where you'll see stunning views over the city and across to the Southern Alps.
CHC market

Farmers Markets

There are some great markets in the Christchurch region with one of our faves being the Farmers' Market held in Riccarton House on a Saturday and Riccarton Market on a Sunday. The Farmers' Market is in a historic setting where you can pick up great meats, cheeses, fruits & vegetables. The Riccarton Market held every Sunday is Christchurch's largest market housing over 300 stalls from fresh food, arts & crafts, clothing, furniture and much more, there's also local artists playing music whilst you stroll around, perfect right?!
CHC punting

Go Punting on the Avon River

Check out the ‘Garden City’ from your very own flat bottomed boat! Your skilled punter will glide you along the Avon River in style and provide you with informative commentary or silence if that's what floats your boat (excuse the pun!) You’ll travel through the City’s Botanic Gardens and the historic Antigua Boat sheds, by the end of your journey you’ll feel just like a sophisticated Venetian!
