If you’re heading to our shores this summer or just wondering how you can spend your time in the sun, there are several concerts, festivals and events happening throughout New Zealand in the first few months of 2019! There's something for everyone; from musos, to foodies and those on the lookout for free events in their hood. We give you our top 8 events to attend!

1. SILO PARK CINEMA

Silo Park is home to many awesome eateries, an outdoor playground and an outdoor cinema! Head along on Friday nights over summer (December 21 2018 – March 31 2019) and watch a movie on the side of a silo for free! Grab a drink or two, enjoy the waterfront location and sit back and relax on a balmy summer’s night. Movies on show include The Incredibles 2, Black Panther, Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Princess Bride and many more.

2. BREAD & CIRCUS: WORLD BUSKER'S FESTIVAL 

The World Busker’s Festival heads back to Christchurch from 10 January – 3 February 2019 and what an event it’s going to be! The festival brings together national and international performers who will have you laughing your socks off! Be surprised and intrigued in some of the street performances, applaud the funny ones or head along to a ticketed show in one of Christchurch’s theatres.

3. Soundsplash

Set in the laid back town of Raglan, Soundsplash is back again for another year from 18-20 January! Popular Australian reggae/indie rock band Sticky Fingers are headlining, along with New Zealand talent Katchafire, Home Brew, Sachi and Kings. Only a short day trip from Auckland, get in to the festival vibe and camp onsite so you don’t miss any of the action!

4. FAT FREDDY'S DROP CONCERT

Dubbed an iconic Kiwi band, no summer is complete without sitting in the sun sipping on a glass of wine and soaking in the sweet sounds of Fat Freddy’s Drop. Playing throughout many New Zealand cities and towns, Fat Freddy’s are popping in to Auckland during their tour! Playing at Western Springs on 19 January, this outdoor gig will make for an epic Saturday afternoon.

5. CHRISTCHURCH STREET FOOD MARKET

If you’re after filling your belly with some soul-warming food, head to Cathedral Square in the City Centre on Fridays from 11am-9pm and check out the food trucks. Admission is free and the event features live entertainment and food stalls celebrating different cuisines from around the world. Don’t be surprised if you need to wander around a few times before you pick what to have because there are so many delicious options.

6. Takapuna Food, Wine & Music Festival 

Attention all foodies, this one’s for you! The Takapuna Food, Wine & Music Festival is back on 16 February 2019! Featuring local wineries, craft breweries, street food vendors, local and international musicians, you’ll really be soaking in the summer atmosphere. Tickets are on sale now and vendors include Cloudy Bay Winery, Man O War Estate, Garage Project Breweries, Double Dutch Fries, Judge Bao and Napoli Pizza. This is one not to be missed!

7. SPLORE

A music festival like no other set on the shores of Tapapakanga Regional Park, Splore is a festival for those party animals who want to spend three days dancing the days away! Not only does the festival celebrate local talent, art installations and other workshops run throughout the days so there’s something for everyone. Head along in 2019 from 21-24 February for a few days packed full of fun and camp out in an epic spot with your mates!

8. THROUGH THE VALLEY FESTIVAL

If you’re down south in the beautiful Queenstown over Easter weekend in 2019, the Through The Valley Festival cannot be missed. Held at Cargo Brewery on Easter Saturday (20 April), this one-day festival is headlined by the great Dave Dobbyn, as well as Fly My Pretties and other local talent. The lush outdoor setting will see you dance the afternoon away with a bevvie in hand, what better way to see out the last weeks of summer?
